About Christiane:
With a personality as vibrant as her paintings, Belgium born artist Christiane David has taken art to a new level in Lancaster County. Walking into her Lancaster gallery on Prince Street is like walking into an enchanted world of color. Filled with an eclectic array of watercolors, acrylic, and oil paintings, it is no doubt one of the most vibrant colorful galleries you’ll find anywhere. Regardless of the medium or the subject matter, every painting large or small is a dramatization of color, texture, and dimension.

Christiane loves to go deeper into the world of color and push it to the point of where there are no rules to follow. Her ability as a colorist has allowed her to see color not usually perceived by the untrained eye. She feels that color has a strong effect on our minds. Whether it has an uplifting and positive influence, or a serene relaxing affect, color can have a powerful impact on all of us.

While Christiane’s paintings reflect a free and spontaneous style, her strong technical background and attention to composition allow her to do this in a very innovative way. Her ability to emphasize color and light in a painting may initially attract your attention. But it is her ability to capture the soul of whatever subject she paints that will draw you into the painting, leaving you with a glimpse of the emotionally intensity that goes into every one of her paintings.

Born and raised in Belgium, Christiane began painting at the age of 8. It was no surprise since her father was a painter, and in addition her family surrounded her with many other forms of art such as music, antiques, and literature. Her grandfather was a chef, so presentation was also an important artistic element to this family.

After studying architecture in Brussels, Christiane began a career as a designer, but she also continued her studies in oil and watercolor at the Academy of Art in Brussels, where she studied under disciples of the famous Belgium painters Paul Delaux and Rene Magritte. Her abstract impressionist style was also influenced by many other European impressionists, who helped her communicate her passion onto the canvas.

While in Europe, Christiane participated in many juried art shows and sold her work. But in 1985 she and her husband and young daughter moved to the United States, and she soon made a name for herself as an artist here in the states. In 1996 Christiane became a member of the Berks County Art Alliance. She is a former member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club, the Harrisburg Art Association, and she is a past president of the Berks Art Alliance. She is currently an associate member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and the Prestigious Art Students League of New York, where she hopes to teach classes someday.

Since moving to the United States, Christiane has studied with artists such as Jack Coggin, Howard Watson, Janet Walsh, Jean Spicer, Thomas Buechner, Lee Hidley, Gregory Gillespie, and Bruce Samuelson. In 2006, Empire Who's Who Registry of Executives and Professionals gave Christiane the top honor in art.

While she has customers from all over the world, you can almost always find her painting in the gallery on Queen Street. She loves conversing with customers, and after talking with Christiane, it is very evident why there is so much passion on the canvas. Painting is her love and the eye to her very soul.
