Christiane David: "Impressionist Celebration: A Plein Air Vision"

Event Details

Nov 21 - Nov 23

In 1874, thirty-one artists, including Monet, Renoir, Degas, Morisot, Pissarro, Sisley, and Cezanne, staged an independent exhibition after their rejection by the official Paris Salon. This marked the birth of Impressionism. Their desire to break free from academic norms led them to capture spontaneous moments outdoors, using portable oil paints to depict the effects of light and movement.

Artist Christiane David recently returned from Europe, retracing the steps of Impressionist pioneers and visiting iconic landmarks of the movement. Her journey through Normandy involved painting, sketching, and visiting exhibitions central to the Impressionist legacy. She also explored Bruges, Ghent, and Brussels, gathering inspiration. Opening November 1st, “Impressionist Celebration” at the Lancaster Art Vault will showcase her Plein Air works from the trip, along with earlier pieces, photographs, and live demonstrations.
