Journey to the Land of the Sweets: A Nutcracker Tale
Event Details
Silver Spring Dance invites you to join us for a new holiday tradition: Journey to the Land of the Sweets: A Nutcracker Tale. Created and choreographed by Katie Reiter, former Assistant Director of Hudson Youth Ballet and professional ballet dancer, this ballet is a new twist on an old tale that will tell a slightly different story. You won’t find Clara, a Mouse King…or even a Nutcracker! Instead you’ll be swept up in a blizzard and transported into the decadent, dream-like world that is “The Land of the Sweets.”
Journey to the Land of the Sweets: A Nutcracker Tale features 50 student ballet dancers from 9 local studios. There will be four opportunities to see their beautiful work on display at the Hempfield Performing Arts Center.
Friday Evening—December 20, 6:00 pm
Saturday Morning (Sensory Sensitive)—December 21, 11:00 am
Saturday Evening—December 21, 6:00 pm
Sunday Matinee—December 22, 2:00 pm
The Saturday morning performance will be a sensory sensitive show. This means that it will be abbreviated with reduced sound levels, gentle stage lighting, and low ambient lighting in the theater throughout the performance. Patrons will be allowed to move around or exit the theater as needed. There will also be designated “quiet spaces” should any guest need to take a break from the performance.
All performances are free to attend with the option to include a “pay-what-you-can” donation at checkout. We encourage all our patrons to get their tickets ahead of time as seating is assigned.
