January 11, 2025
4:00 PM
–9:00 PM
Join us for a candlelit evening of storytelling at the 1719 Museum. You’ll hear songs and stories passed down for multiple generations among Lancaster County’s Indigenous communities and Lancaster County Mennonites.
Your visit will include 30 minutes at the Herr House and 30 minutes at the Lancaster Longhouse. At the Herr House, you’ll learn about Mennonite life in Lancaster just before war began in the 1750s. Interpreters will introduce the Herr family and highlight the significance of the Martyrs Mirror to their community during a time of uncertainty. You’ll hear stories from the Martyrs Mirror and listen to English translations of hymns from the Ausbund, performed by a Mennonite a cappella group. At the Lancaster Longhouse, Barry Lee, an award-winning Indigenous musician and artist, will share songs and stories rooted in his cultural heritage.
Light refreshments are included with admission. The museum store will be open for the event.
