Burd Coleman Village Walking Tour
Saturday, April 12th, 2025
Did you know . . . today’s Burd Coleman Road was once part
of the North Lebanon and Mt. Hope Plank and Turnpike
Road? It was used to transport the valuable ore from
Cornwall to the Mt. Hope Furnace. To learn more about this
road and other interesting local facts, join us on a delightful
and educational stroll through the beautiful community of
Burd Coleman. Local historians, L. Susan Wentzel and
Michael Trump, have agreed to repeat the guided tour they
featured at the Furnace’s December Christmas event.
Please consider joining us as we walk among the quaint
stone structures and learn about the history of the village, its
relationship to the Cornwall mines, the architecture, and
some of the unique homes and businesses.
Tours will be conducted between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm on
Saturday, April 12th. Please be aware that the walking tours
are about an hour in length and will require walking less than
one mile over uneven sidewalks and slight inclines. Guests
should wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather.
Tours depart on the hour and cost $5 per person (ages 2
and under are free). Your tour guide will take payment in
cash on the day of the tour. All proceeds benefit the Friends
of Cornwall Iron Furnace.
Because spots are limited, we ask that you preregister by
calling the furnace at 717-272-9711.
In the event of inclement weather, Saturday, April 19th will
serve as the rain date.
